A small unfinished space for a local bike shop. The idea surrounding this set of drawings was one of functionality while also having multiple flexible identities. The shop is certainly a business, but it is also a gathering space and a place of exchange. Due to the small footprint of the space, each wall has an identity different from but complimentary to the other areas of the space. The green north wall is the "bike wall", for display of bikes and accessories. The south white wall forms the "art wall" where various small exhibitions can be displayed or rotated. The middle zone forms the work space, with a desk that operates more as a kiosk, to foster an informal exhange with the customer, and a space in front of the desk for working on a bike on the floor. Various shelving for display and storage sit behind and are built into the desk.
The mezzanine becomes hangout space, with a bookshelf and seating overlooking the floor. Access to this area is via ladder, made from the same material, a vertical pole construction, as the shelving and the bike displays, tying the varying aesthetics and functions into one coherent space.
